This month’s Patch Tuesday will include seven security bulletinfrom Microsoft: four are critical and three are important; three require reboots, three may require a reboot, and one does not. Both businesses and consumers will likely be affected. Critical vulnerabilities can be exploited without user interaction; important vulnerabilities can only be exploited with user interaction. Bulletins 1, 2 and 3 all involve critical vulnerabilities that can lead to remote code execution (RCE) and should therefore be treated seriously. It’s not a huge number of bulletins this month, but it’s still going to be a busy time for admins. "My concern in reviewing these updates," summarizes Alex Horan, senior product manager at CORE Security, "isn’t so much centered around the critical nature of the vulnerability, but rather the number of end-user patches that are required to shore them up. These patches can be a hassle for users to deploy and have the potential to create a long enough delay where hackers can take advantage." It is that latency |

Windows users - do you take your computer's security seriously? If so, you might decide to take prompt action when you receive an email seemingly from the Microsoft Digital Crimes Unit. But that would actually be a big mistake. You may remember that the Digital Crimes Unit at Microsoft are the folks who have worked hard to bring down botnet servers, including those associated with Zeus, and investigated suspected malware authors. Attached to the email is a file called Microsoft_STF_install.zip. And, according to the above email, "all users of the internet" should run the program to validate "there" (sic) email account. Well, hopefully most of you will be rightly suspicious (even if it didn't contain spelling mistakes) of the unsolicited email and too wise to blindly run a program just because of instructions which claim to come from Microsoft. The irony of a cybercriminal attack posing as the Microsoft Digital Crimes Unit, and using the fear of vulnerabilities and malware infection to trick users into |

Things are not going well for Windows RT, that has suffered the shame of all shames: one of its initial hardware partners seems to be backing out of the deal. After announcing that it was not going to sell the Windows RT-based Samsung Ativ Tab in USA, now Sammy goes ahead and does the same thing with Europe. The South Koreans will stop selling the Windows RT Ativ Tab in Europe, it seems and the announcement came in Germany during CeBIT 2013. The product debuted at IFA 2012 at the end of last summer, but sadly we may end up not seeing it anywhere. While in US there wasn’t enough demand for the product to succeed, the reason for European lack is a mystery. Germany will not get the tablet for sure, according to a Samsung rep at CeBIT and other European countries have had their launch plans cancelled. Samsung things there is no market for Windows RT in Germany or other European countries, so that’s the reason for the decision...Read more at windows8newsinfonews forum. |

The Obama Administration is making its opinion about cell phone unlocking crystal clear in a new memo. In what is sure to draw the attention (and disdain) of mobile providers nationwide, the Obama Administration is arguing that it's time to legalize cell phone unlocking. In a follow up to a petition to the President, R. David Edelman, senior advisor for Internet, Innovation, & Privacy, penned the response, declaring the White House's stance is that "neither criminal law nor technological locks should prevent consumers from switching carriers when they are no longer bound by a service agreement or other obligation." Edelman also noted that the White House has been working with telecommunications, technology, and copyright policy experts on this topic. However, aside from putting some added pressure on mobile providers to take all of this into consideration as well as noting that the Federal Communications Commission has some responsibility here, Edelman refrained from commenting about any more |

A few year back when netbooks first started making an appearance people jumped at the opportunity to purchase at least one for themselves and their families. That is because the devices were small, light and highly portable, while sold at very attractive price. The problem was they were under-powered to run the heavy Microsoft OS. Since last year the once sought netbooks started being replaced with the ultrabooks, more powerful and stylish devices. As the components started shrinking in size while their power increased, ultrabooks are also the ones that will be replacing the regular laptops. As for the netbook category, most manufacturers have abandoned their production in favor of making tablets. The later are cheaper, lighter and the mobile OS´s have become at least as powerful as a basic Windows version. Google struck gold with the launch of the Nexus 7 last year. The tablet is still one of the best on the market in its category...Complete details can be found on windows8newsinfo forum. |

Microsoft has often boasted how IE10 is the fastest and safest version of Internet Explorer it has released so far, outlining the features that make its in-house browser one of the most secure around. But safest in this case does not mean it is without any vulnerability. If anything, hacking Internet Explorer 10 is not such a tough challenge after all. Hackers at this year’s Pwn2Own have exploited two flaws in the browser, using which they managed to break into Windows 8 computers. You should have access to all your important passwords. Because, passwords which are a combination of letters, numbers and more ensure confidentiality of data stored across various workstations. Often, it is advised to choose a strong password to make sure that all your account passwords are as difficult to guess or break into as possible. But, sometimes, remembering such strong passwords becomes difficult. Nevertheless, there are many free password managers to help you store and remember passwords. One that I found useful was Password Bank Vault. Password Bank Vault is an easy to use application that allows you to keep your passwords in a secure location. The program is cross-platform i.e. it is compatible with Windows, Mac OS and open-source OS such as Linux. It allows you to organize the credentials in predefined lists and to create a custom tab with the desired details. All the database entered can be protected by using a personal password...Full details and download link are presented on windows8newsinfo forum. |

The Pirate Bay has found a new haven, and it’s one place in this entire world where its data will be guaranteed to remain untouchable by irate corporations. This morning it was reported that The Pirate Bay has been given (and accepted) virtual asylum by Kim Jong Un, and the group is running its traffic through North Korea. As wonderfully insane as the story may be, it’s nothing but a mere hoax. "This is truly an ironic situation. We have been fighting for a free world, and our opponents are mostly huge corporations from the United States of America, a place where freedom and freedom of speech is said to be held high. At the same time, companies from that country is chasing a competitor from other countries, bribing police and lawmakers, threatening political parties and physically hunting people from our crew. And to our help comes a government famous in our part of the world for locking people up for their thoughts and forbidding access to information."...For the complete memo from Pirate Bay visit winodws8newsinfo forum. |

Internet Explorer 10. Unfortunately, some users are reporting a BSOD thanks to this update. Microsoft is aware of this issue and is investigating. Microsoft released a "platform update" for Windows 7 on February 26th which was to "resolve issues in Windows." This update was considered a "feature pack" and was a pre-req for Internet Explorer 10, which was released for Windows 7 that same day. The update was supposed to improve the features and performance of Direct2D, DirectWrite, Direct3D, Windows Imaging Component, Windows Advanced Rasterization Platform, Windows Animation Manager, XPS Document API, H.264 Video Decoder, and JPEG XR codec. Apparently, some users who are running Windows 7 64bit and had this update installed, would experience a Blue Screen when using Internet Explorer 9. "Microsoft is aware of an issue some customers are experiencing when installing KB2670838 on certain laptop systems with hybrid graphics...Curious to know more and how to resolve this issue, you need to |

Internet Explorer 10 for Windows 7 has been released recently and while post installations have gone through smoothly, there is a small percentage who find that Internet Explorer 10 does not install on their Windows 7 computer and they may have received the following Error Message, even after having installed the prerequisite Windows Updates. The reason for this happening is because, some computers have hybrid video cards that are not yet compatible with Internet Explorer 10 for Windows 7. As a result Internet Explorer 10 will not install on these Windows 7 computers until updated hardware drivers are available for these video cards. Microsoft is working with these computer manufacturers and expects the device drivers to be available soon. Internet Explorer 10 on Windows 7 is more about performance improvements rather than features. It makes all online services and websites look more compelling and dynamic...Need more information like particular computers this is happening too, visit us at windows8newsinfo forum. |

Wacom makes graphics tablets which you can plug into a computer draw detailed images using a pressure-sensitive pen. The company’s technology has also been used in a number of tablets and other devices, adding support for pressure-sensitive writing and drawing. Now Wacom is preparing to launch its own tablet, aimed at creative folks who want a tablet that can be used for artwork on the go. The company unveiled plans for the new mobile tablet on its Facebook page, and says it should launch this summer. The tablet will have an HD display, support for multi-touch input, and a "real pressure-sensitive professional pen." Wacom isn’t saying much more at the moment, so we don’t know if the tablet will have an ARM-based chip or an x86 processor, or if it will run Android, Windows, or something else. But my money’s on a Windows 8 tablet with an x86 processor that can handle Photoshop and other industry-standard graphics apps...Want to know more, stop by windows8newsinfo forum. |
