Google may may be getting ready to take a page out of Apple’s book by opening retail stores to sell devices running Google software. According to 9to5Google the idea came up when when officials were trying to figure out the best way to sell the upcoming Google Glass wearable computer. The idea is that most folks would want to try this sort of radically new technology before plunking down $500 to $1000 to buy a mobile device that you wear on your head. While Google isn’t really known as a hardware company, the company does sell a line of devices directly through its website, including Nexus phones and tablets running Android and the latest Chromebook laptops running Google’s Chrome operating system. All of those products could theoretically benefit from a bricks and mortar showroom where potential customers could try before they buy. Right now you can check out Chromebooks at select retail locations such as Best Buy in the US or Dixon’s in the UK, but few stores carry Nexus phones and |

Obama's cybersecurity executive order |

There was grave concern that the president could sign an executive order effectively signing into law some, if not most, parts of the proposed Cyber Intelligence Sharing and Protection Act (CISPA) Bill. Though it was passed by the US House, it failed to gain traction in the Senate, and also faced threats by the White House to veto the Bill altogether. However, CISPA remains on the table, and will be brought back up by the House tomorrow. According to TechDirt, nothing has been changed since it first stalled in the Senate. The final executive order doesn't have half of the concerning privacy implications that CISPA does, and has also garnered support from a major privacy group, the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU). Having said that, the privacy implications of this cybersecurity order have yet to be defined, and could still pose a significant risk to the privacy of web citizens. In the president's State of the Union address, however, he repeated his call for Congress to "[pass] legislation to give our government a |

The Surface Pro, powered by Windows 8 Pro, was officially launched online at MicrosoftStore.com, as well as BestBuy and Staples, and within a few hours, the 128GB model of the Surface Pro was already sold out at Microsoft's online store. Now, Microsoft has issued a statement regarding this crisis offering some good news. "Customer response to the launch of Surface Pro has been amazing. We’re working with our retail partners who are currently out of stock of the 128GB Surface Pro to replenish supplies as quickly as possible. Our priority is to ensure that every customer gets their new Surface Pro as soon as possible," Microsoft's Panos Panay stated in an official Surface Blog post. The 128GB Surface Pro, which does not come with a Touch or Type cover, runs for $999 and is already sold out at MicrosoftStore.com, as well as in BestBuy and Staples. Microsoft hopes to "replenish supplies" with these retail outlets soon. Sounds like Microsoft wasn't expecting the Surface Pro to be a hit. Case in point: check out this image |

Microsoft's 'Blue' wave is coming |

Blue isn't just the codename of the next version of Windows. It also is the codename for updates to Windows Phone, Windows Server and Windows Services, I'm hearing. As we've known for a few months, the Windows client team at Microsoft is working on its first "feature-pack" update for Windows 8, supposedly due this summer/fall, which is codenamed "Blue." But it turns out Blue isn't a Windows thing only, according to one very accurate tipster of mine who doesn't want to be identified. Blue also is the way Microsoft is referring to the next substantial platform update for Windows Phone, the Windows Services (like SkyDrive, Hotmail, etc.), and Windows Server, according to my source. In other words, Blue is a wave of product refreshes which are not expected to arrive exactly all on the same day, but which are meant to be released more or less around the same time. Before these various Blues come to market, there will continue to be minor fixes, firmware updates and new features added to Windows 8, Windows |

Surface Windows 8 Pro first impressions |

Fast, quiet, powerful, and elegant, were the first four words that came to mind after my first encounter with the Surface Windows 8 Pro. A new paradigm, that's the fifth, sixth, and seventh word that came to mind. Let me begin by first thanking Russ, the manager of the Microsoft store at the Domain, in Austin, Texas, and his assistant Meg who were very gracious today in allowing me to spend some time examining the new Surface Windows 8 Pro tablet. They were both very informative, and Meg, a self-described "motorcycle person", took the time to introduce me to some of the other products and services the store had to offer. Thanks again! This is not an in depth review of the Surface Windows 8 Pro, but a quick first look at a device that I think is the beginning of a new way to look at tablets and other small form factor devices. The tablet, which is powered by an Intel Core i5 processor, weighs approximately 2lbs, which, is slightly heavier than the Surface RT...Keep in mind this is a first impression for mor visit windows8newsinfo forum. |

Manage running apps, The physical back button on the Lumia 920 makes it easy to manage the background apps. It has been two years since the release of Windows 7 Service Pack 1 and Microsoft would like to remind those who are still running Windows 7 (without SP1) that the operating system will no longer be supported starting April 9th of 2013. If you are running SP1, you are still good for a while. "Windows 7 RTM (with no service pack) will no longer be supported as of April 9th, 2013, following the standard Windows support lifecycle specifying that support ends 24 months after the release of a new service pack. Rest assured that Windows 7 will continue to be fully supported for a long time, with mainstream support continuing until January 13, 2015, and extended support continuing until January 14, 2020," Microsoft stated in an official blog post. Windows 7 SP1 will continue to receive mainstream support until 01/13/2015 and extended support (paid security updates) until 01/14/2020...There is a chart that identifies support dates for each version posted on windows8newsinfo forum. |

The next-generation Xbox—the one that will follow the still-popular Xbox 360—will run multiple games at once, require game installations, and will only work when a much-improved version of the popular but divisive Kinect sensor array is plugged in, according to a source who says he has access to development hardware. Those are a just a few details about the new console, codenamed Durango, that were shared with us by a person with access to next-gen information. Our source also claims to have a pair of Durango development kits. We've also heard more about how the system apparently works and what it will be like to control it and play games on it, though we've not seen the unit ourselves. Our source even claims to have played some Durango games, describing the graphical leap from current-gen console gaming like going from playing Halo 2 on an original Xbox to playing Crysis on a powerful PC...Although these claims have not been confirmed by Microsoft, complete details can be found on windows8newsinfo forum. |

Microsoft Surface Pro battery life could improve |

The Microsoft Surface Pro is more powerful than your typical tablet, thanks to an Intel Core i5-3317U processor. But it’s literally more powerful – meaning not only do you get better performance, but you also see quicker battery drain. While the Surface Pro has a bigger battery than the Surface RT tablet with its NVIDIA Tegra 3 processor, it gets less than half the battery life. But it looks like Microsoft may be planning to support new accessories that will extend the tablet’s battery life. In a Q&A on Reddit, members of the surface team confirmed that there are new connectors on the bottom of the Surface Pro – and they can carry enough current to charge the battery. In other words, you don’t have to use the power jack to charge the tablet. You can also charge it using the connectors in the spine where you would normally attach the Touch Cover or Type Cover keyboards...Continue reading at windows8newsinfo forum. |

Talk about unorthodox marketing.. Microsoft has apparently conducted a survey about the upcoming Valentines Day (empty out your wallet for your significant other day) and revealed that one in ten people have ended their relationship on that big day. Now, Bing suggests you dump Google! "Tired of being let down in love on Valentine’s Day? According to a recent survey from Bing and Impulse Research Corp., a surprising one in 10 people have ended a relationship on arguably the most romantic day of the year. This year Bing is challenging people to reconsider their search habit and break up with Google," Microsoft stated. In fact, Microsoft suggests that you leave Google because why would you date someone who isn't "trustworthy" and who uses a search engine for serving its interests and not yours. "In fact, a whopping 85 percent of people report that trustworthiness is the most important trait in a mate, beating out good in bed, sense of humor and wealth," Microsoft adds. Classic stuff right here! Microsoft |
